Battlefield 6 offers free trial with hagental base & nightfall mode
EA is giving players a second chance to test the waters with Battlefield 6, launching a free trial this week that includes the Hagental Base map and the Nightfall mode. The trial begins March 17th and runs for a week, coinciding with the release of the Season 2: Nightfall update.
Limited-time access to battlefield 6
The free trial, accessible via the free-to-play REDSEC experience, allows players to sample multiplayer maps and modes before committing to a purchase. This latest offering follows a turbulent start for the franchise, marked by disappointing fan reception and a recent reduction in staff at BF Studios. The inclusion of Hagental Base, a previously released map, and the new Nightfall mode offers a compelling reason for both curious newcomers and returning players to dive back in.
Nightfall transforms Hagental Base into a dark and dangerous arena, pitting teams against each other using tools like night vision and incendiary grenades. Alongside this, players can also access existing content through the All-Out Warfare and Casual Breakthrough playlists, which blend real players with bots across various maps.
This isn't the first attempt to entice players. The initial free trial launched in October 2025. With the Hunter/Prey update slated for April 14th, Season 2 represents a critical juncture for Battlefield 6 to regain momentum. The game's design director, Justin Wiebe, has stated that player feedback is being actively considered as the team strives to address concerns raised since launch. The trial is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
For those considering a deeper dive, our multiplayer review offers an 8/10 assessment, and an interview with Wiebe provides further insight into the studio’s plans. The question remains: can Battlefield 6 successfully navigate its challenges and recapture the player base it initially lost?
