The suspects, aged 38, 54, and 52, arranged to buy the cards from the victim at a Tokyo hotel, showing him a paper bag filled with what appeared to be stacks of cash. However, the victim discovered the bundles were mostly made of paper, with only the top note genuine, leaving him with just 1 million yen ($6,295).
The suspects, identified as Toru Morino, Jun Takemura, and Eiji Koda, have been arrested and are suspected of working together to pull off the scam. Morino has remained silent, while Takemura and Koda denied any involvement.
